Russia's Offensive Against Ukraine
In a massive 30-hour operation, Russia launched over 1,600 missiles and drones at Ukraine—a 60% increase over the previous record set in 2025. Ukrainian Air Defense Performance
Out of the 1,600 projectiles fired, at least 1,500 were either destroyed or neutralized through electronic warfare (EW) measures. The downed targets included:
- 3 Kh-47 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles
- 18 Iskander ballistic missiles
- 35 Kh-101 cruise missiles
- 675 Shahed drones, including jet-powered variants
In the capital region, over 70% of Shahed drones were eliminated by Ukrainian drones. Nationwide, drones accounted for one out of every three aerial threats intercepted.
Each Shahed drone costs nearly $100,000, while the interceptor drones used against them range from $3,000 to $5,000 apiece. By contrast, a single Patriot interceptor missile carries a price tag of $3 million. Commenting on the situation, analyst Mykhailo Samus emphasized that
“there is no magic bullet against Russia; only an integrated system works”.
