Final in Rabat

Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina was forced to retire during the championship match of the WTA 250 clay court tournament in Rabat, Morocco. Her opponent, Croatia's Petra Marčinko, led 6-2, 3-0 when Kalinina decided to stop playing after the second set.

Road to the Final

En route to the final, Kalinina showed strong form, defeating Hungary's Panna Udvardy—ranked 68th in the WTA standings—in the semifinals. Marčinko, meanwhile, eliminated Ukrainian player Yelyzaveta Kotliar earlier in the event.

Despite the loss in the final, Kalinina will rise to world No. 59 next week, making her Ukraine's fifth-highest-ranked female player and surpassing Oleksandra Oliynykova. Oliynykova had previously beaten Marčinko decisively at a tournament in Rome, but in Rabat, Marčinko showed her strength and endurance.

Thus, despite a disappointing final, Kalinina earned valuable ranking points and remains one of Ukraine's leading tennis figures.

This final marked a key moment in Kalinina's career, as her climb in the WTA rankings opens doors to more prestigious tournaments.

Support for Ukrainian female tennis players on the global stage remains crucial amid today's challenges, and Kalinina's achievements can inspire other athletes to reach new heights. The experience she gained at this tournament may prove valuable in future competitions.

While Kalinina's recent performance in Morocco showcased her potential, it's worth noting her earlier exit alongside Starodubtseva from an Italian tournament. These experiences underscore the challenges faced by Ukrainian players in their quest for success on the WTA circuit.
