Ukrainian Women’s Performances on Grass Courts
Yuliia Starodubtseva (WTA 59) has been eliminated from the WTA 250 grass-court event in Nottingham, falling to American Emma Navarro (WTA 25) in the round of 16. The match, the first-ever meeting between the two players, lasted three hours and concluded with a score of 4:6, 7:6 (7:3), 4:6.
Starodubtseva held a lead in the second set but could not convert two set points while ahead 5:0. She managed to claim the set in a tiebreak, winning it 7:3. In the deciding set, she again took an early 3:1 advantage but was unable to maintain it. Over the course of the match, she recorded two aces, two double faults, and six breaks of serve.
Yastremska and Svitolina Continue Their Campaigns
Dayana Yastremska is also representing Ukraine at this same Nottingham tournament and will face Germany’s Tatjana Maria in the second round on June 17. This will be their second career meeting; the only previous encounter took place in 2023 in Hua Hin, where the German emerged victorious. Yastremska is the reigning finalist in Nottingham, having reached her first grass-court final last season.
Additionally, Elina Svitolina (WTA 8) has advanced to the round of 16 at the WTA 500 grass-court tournament in Berlin. In the first round, she defeated Anna Kalinskaya (WTA 20), who was unable to finish the match.
