Ukrainian-Language Audio Guide Now Available at Anıtkabir Memorial

An audio guide in Ukrainian has been introduced at the Anıtkabir memorial in Ankara, a site dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding president of Turkey. Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska, confirmed the launch. Across the globe, there are now 124 Ukrainian-language audio guides in 60 countries. This new feature allows the Ukrainian community in Turkey—which has grown significantly due to Russia's invasion—to explore Atatürk's story and his nation's history in their native language.

The Anıtkabir complex includes Atatürk's mausoleum, a museum honoring his legacy, and an exhibit on the Turkish War of Independence. The Ukrainian audio guide enriches visits to this landmark, making Atatürk’s achievements and his role in shaping modern Turkey more accessible to Ukrainian visitors.

Significance of Cultural Exchange

Ukrainian-language audio guides are also offered at other prominent Turkish sites, including:

  • Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul
  • Ephesus Open-Air Museum
  • Göreme National Park in Cappadocia
  • Antalya Archaeological Museum
  • St. Nicholas Museum in Demre

Zelenska emphasized that 'Ukrainian will now be heard alongside English, French, Chinese, and Spanish—because it deserves a place at the world’s top attractions, on par with other languages.'

Atatürk once stated that 'one must respect each country's borders and rules, and war is a crime unless it is fought to defend one's own life.' With the introduction of the Ukrainian audio guide at Anıtkabir, Ukrainians can gain a deeper appreciation of Turkey's cultural and historical heritage. This marks a meaningful step in strengthening ties between the two nations.

The rollout of this audio guide represents a key initiative highlighting cultural exchange and mutual respect between Ukraine and Turkey. It helps Ukrainians living in or visiting Turkey better understand the country's historical context, which can foster stronger sociocultural connections. As the Ukrainian community in Turkey continues to expand, such efforts become increasingly vital for preserving identity and cultural heritage in new surroundings.

In addition to the newly launched audio guide at Anıtkabir, a new Ukrainian website featuring over 140 memorial sites has been introduced, further enhancing the accessibility of cultural heritage for Ukrainians. This initiative not only supports the exploration of historical landmarks but also fosters a deeper understanding of Ukraine's rich history and its connections with other nations.
