Ukraine's Freestyle Skiing Team for the 2026 Olympics: Athletes and Competition Format
Freestyle skiing, a dynamic and spectacular sport that originated in the 1960s, will feature 15 medal events at the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and Cortina. This high number underscores the discipline's growing global appeal. The International Ski Federation (FIS) officially recognized freestyle in 1979, and it made its Olympic debut at the 1988 Calgary Games.
Competition Rules and Ukraine's Participation
The competition rules require athletes to land on a slope with a 34–39 degree incline. In individual events, the top 12 athletes advance to the final, with the top 6 moving on to a superfinal. For the team event, mixed trios—typically two men and one woman—compete, with 6 teams in the first final round and 4 advancing to the superfinal.
A total of 50 freestyle skiers—25 men and 25 women—will compete at the 2026 Olympics. Ukraine has secured 8 quota places for the event, a significant achievement for the nation's program. The team will consist of 4 men and 4 women, who will participate across all three disciplines on the program.
