Strike on Moscow Region Oil Refinery
In the early hours of June 16, Ukrainian long-range weaponry successfully targeted an oil refinery in the Moscow region. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike, which covered a distance of 500 kilometers, and expressed gratitude to the military for the operation's success. According to an OSINT channel, two facilities were hit: a fuel depot in Krasnodar Krai and the Moscow Refinery in Kapotnya.
Targets of the Attack
- The first target, a fuel depot in the Poltavskaya stanitsa of Krasnodar Krai, lies 310 kilometers from the front line.
- The second target, the Moscow Refinery in Kapotnya, is located approximately 450 kilometers from the combat zone and stands as the largest oil processing plant in the capital.
At the Kapotnya facility, the attack ignited the ELOU AVT-6 unit, a critical component for primary oil refining.
'Ukraine's long-range capability was felt this time in the Moscow region. An oil refinery was struck at a distance of 500 kilometers.'
— Volodymyr Zelensky
President Zelensky further underscored the significance of Ukraine's long-range weapons, stating: 'Russia must be compelled to end its war against our people. Ukrainian long-range weaponry is one of the key elements of such compulsion.'
Zelensky thanked the soldiers of the SBU, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, HUR, and Rocket Forces for their roles in executing this operation.
This attack on critical Russian infrastructure highlights the expanding capabilities of Ukraine's armed forces in conducting long-range missions. By striking vital oil refining facilities, Ukraine aims not only to inflict economic damage but also to demonstrate its capacity for proactive countermeasures over vast distances. Such actions could reshape Russia's strategic calculations and amplify calls for international support in the conflict.
The recent strike on the oil refinery in Moscow is part of a broader strategy that underscores Ukraine's evolving military capabilities. As evidenced by another recent operation targeting Russian naval depots near St. Petersburg, Ukrainian forces are increasingly demonstrating the ability to conduct precise strikes far from the front lines. This pattern reveals a significant shift in the dynamics of the conflict, highlighting Ukraine's commitment to disrupting Russian supply lines and infrastructure.
