Voronezh Targeted by Ukrainian Drones in Strikes on VASO, Voronezhsintezkauchuk, and Northern Bridge

Безпілотники України завдали удару по ключовим об'єктам у Воронежі, в тому числі на підприємствах авіаційної промисловості.

Drone Strikes Hit Voronezh and Key Industrial Sites

In the early hours of October 26, Ukrainian drone forces launched attacks on the Russian city of Voronezh, striking the VASO aircraft manufacturing plant, the petrochemical facility Voronezhsintezkauchuk, and the Northern Bridge. These actions are part of a coordinated three-day campaign targeting synthetic rubber factories across Russia, which also included assaults on the Tolyattikauchuk complex and Omsk Rubber Plant.

Voronezhsintezkauchuk, a subsidiary of the Russian petrochemical conglomerate Sibur, specializes in producing synthetic rubbers and thermoelastoplastics, including butadiene and butadiene-styrene rubbers. Meanwhile, VASO, operated under PJSC Il United Aircraft Corporation, contributes to the Il-96 aircraft program and manufactures components for various other aircraft models.

Official Responses and Continued Strikes

Alexander Gusev, Governor of Voronezh Oblast, confirmed the drone attacks, noting that Russian air defenses actively intercepted the UAVs over the city and its suburbs. Voronezhsintezkauchuk is the third synthetic rubber facility targeted within a three-day window. On October 24, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Tolyattikauchuk plant in the Samara region, damaging the isobutane dehydrogenation workshop and external unit No. 2 of workshop BK-4. This plant processes isobutane into isobutylene, a key precursor for producing butyl rubber. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, synthetic rubbers manufactured in Tolyatti are used in solid rocket fuel production for tactical and ballistic missiles.

  • The Omsk Rubber Plant, part of the Titan Group and a major synthetic rubber producer, was also attacked on October 24.
  • Omsk lies over 2400 kilometers away from Ukraine.

Videos circulating online show explosions and smoke during the nighttime attack in Voronezh, highlighting the scale of the offensive.

This series of strikes against strategic industrial targets in Russia signals a shift in Ukrainian military tactics, focusing on reducing the enemy’s production capabilities that support military operations.

Disrupting factories that produce synthetic rubbers could significantly impact Russia’s defense industry, as these materials are essential for manufacturing rocket propellants. These operations emphasize the critical role of advanced military technologies and supply chains in modern warfare.

The recent drone strikes in Voronezh are part of a broader offensive targeting critical Russian industrial sites. This pattern of attacks mirrors previous operations, such as the recent assault on the Ukrainian forces targeting major Russian facilities on October 9, which included the Ukhta Refinery and a Yandex data center. The strategic focus on key production hubs highlights the ongoing conflict's escalation and its implications for both military and economic stability in the region.
