Ukraine’s Women’s Wrestling Team Shines at European Championships
The second day of finals at the European Women’s Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania, brought remarkable success for Ukraine. Ukrainian wrestlers secured three gold medals and one bronze, making a major contribution to the overall medal tally. In total, the Ukrainian team claimed 8 out of 10 possible medals: 6 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
Champions of the Tournament
Among the winners was Mariia Yefremova, who earned the European champion title in the 53 kg weight class. Notably, this was Yefremova’s debut at a senior European Championship. Another gold medal went to Iryna Koliadenko, who became European champion in the 65 kg category—her fourth continental title. Nadiia Sokolovska also brought home gold in the 72 kg weight class, marking her first senior European Championship victory as well.
Solomiia Vynnyk took the bronze medal in the 57 kg category, her fourth European Championship award. Overall, the Ukrainian wrestlers demonstrated exceptional skill, allowing Ukraine to top the women’s team standings at the European Championships for the tenth time in history. Ukrainian women have now held the title of the continent’s strongest team for four consecutive years, starting from 2023.
Across all styles, the Ukrainian national team has collected 11 medals, including three bronzes from Greco-Roman wrestlers. These results highlight the high level of preparation among Ukraine’s women wrestlers and their ability to achieve outstanding results on the international stage.
