Ukrainian Freestyle Skiers Dominate European Cup Stage
Ukraine's freestyle skiers achieved a full medal sweep at a European Cup stage held in Kotelnica, Poland. In the women's big air competition, Kateryna Kotsar secured the gold medal, marking a significant accomplishment for the Ukrainian team. Her teammate, Mariia Aniichyn, who also competed at this event, earned the silver, highlighting the high caliber of the Ukrainian women's squad.
On the men's side, Orest Kovalenko clinched the bronze medal, finishing the competition in third place. These results underscore a highly successful outing for Ukrainian athletes on the European circuit. Freestyle skiing, which includes events like big air and slopestyle, has become a growing focus for winter sports nations.
Looking Ahead to Future Competitions
It is notable that Kateryna Kotsar also participated in the 2026 Winter Olympics, where she placed 10th in big air. Overall, the Ukrainian team concluded its Olympic campaign without a medal, although Ukrainian athletes placed within the top ten in various disciplines on eight separate occasions.
The next major competition for Ukraine's freestyle skiers will be the Junior World Championships, scheduled for Calgary, Canada, from February 28 to March 7. The event program includes slopestyle, big air, and rail disciplines, where the Ukrainian athletes will have an opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for medals on the global stage. This strong performance in Poland provides positive momentum as the team prepares for these upcoming international events.
