European Regions and Ukrainian Communities Forge Stronger Ties
Kyiv hosted a pivotal meeting between Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, and Kata Tüttő, President of the European Committee of the Regions. Their discussions centered on bolstering local community support, establishing a Joint Consultative Committee between Ukraine and the European Committee of the Regions, and advancing the 'Side by Side' (Plich-o-Plich) project—an initiative that has already engaged over 1,170 communities. This collaboration underscores the growing partnership between Ukraine and European regions at a critical time.
“Ukraine’s resilience is rooted at the local level. Our communities have proven they can operate effectively under extreme conditions, protect their people, and restore essential services against all odds. They are key partners in the nation’s reconstruction. Support from the European Committee of the Regions allows us to scale this experience and build strong bridges between Ukrainian communities and the wider European family.”
Oleksiy Kuleba
This meeting marks a significant milestone in deepening cooperation between Ukraine and European regions, unlocking new avenues for development and recovery. Sustained dialogue and the exchange of expertise remain vital for continued support of Ukrainian communities in their ongoing efforts.
Outlook for Partnership
Enhanced collaboration between Ukrainian communities and European regions promises not just infrastructure restoration but also stronger socio-economic bonds. Participation in the 'Side by Side' project enables Ukrainian communities to tailor European practices to their own needs, boosting their resilience and capacity to face challenges. It also highlights the crucial role of international support in Ukraine’s recovery and long-term development.
As Ukraine strengthens its ties with European regions, the importance of regional alliances becomes increasingly evident. For instance, the recent collaboration between Ukraine and Poland highlights how neighboring countries can support Ukraine's EU aspirations, further enhancing socio-economic stability in the region. These partnerships are essential for fostering resilience and ensuring a comprehensive recovery strategy for Ukrainian communities.
