Ukrainian Powerlifters Shine on the Global Stage
Competing at the World Classic Powerlifting Championships held in Lithuania, Ukrainian athletes delivered a standout performance, capturing medals and breaking multiple records. Viktor Holinei, competing in the over-120 kg weight class, claimed the world title in the bench press by lifting 277.5 kg. That achievement not only earned him gold but also set new European and Ukrainian records.
Holinei further impressed by setting a Ukrainian record in the squat with a 405 kg lift and securing a silver medal in the total with a combined 1042.5 kg—another Ukrainian record. Fellow Ukrainian Anatolii Novopysmennyi, competing in the up to 105 kg category, earned silver in the bench press with 232.5 kg and bronze in the squat with 350 kg. His overall total of 935 kg earned him the vice-world champion title.
