Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Refinery in Ufa and Port of Primorsk, Targeting Economic Lifelines

Українські сили завдали удару по російським економічним об'єктам, зокрема нафтопереробному заводу в Уфі та порту Приморськ.

Strategic Strikes on Russian Energy Infrastructure

In a significant escalation of its long-range campaign, Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted key Russian fuel and energy facilities. These strikes are a core part of Ukraine's strategy to degrade the enemy's military logistics and economic capacity by hitting critical infrastructure deep inside Russia.

Among the targets was the 'Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim' oil refinery in Ufa, which has an annual processing capacity of approximately 6–8 million tons of oil. The attack is notable for the distance involved, with the facility located roughly 1400 km from the Ukrainian border, demonstrating Kyiv's growing capability to project force.

Drone Attack on a Key Baltic Port

Separately, on the night of March 23, drones struck a fuel infrastructure object in the port of Primorsk in Russia's Leningrad region. Primorsk is one of Russia's largest oil terminals on the Baltic Sea, with its pipeline system capable of handling up to 75 million tons of oil per year. These facilities are vital nodes for Russia's energy exports to global markets.

Analysts estimate that Russian budget revenues from oil and gas taxes in March could fall by 52%—to 520 billion rubles compared to March 2025. In response to these events, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated:

“The Defense Forces of Ukraine will continue to strike critical enemy facilities until the full cessation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.” - General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

These coordinated attacks underscore a strategic shift by Ukraine to systematically undermine Russia's war economy. The increasing sophistication of Ukrainian drone technology allows for precise strikes at vast distances, a key feature of modern warfare. The reduction in Russia's oil and gas export income is likely to have long-term consequences for its economic stability and its ability to sustain military operations.

As Ukraine intensifies its campaign against Russian military infrastructure, the recent strikes on critical facilities highlight a broader strategy aimed at crippling Russia's operational capabilities. This follows earlier attacks in which Ukraine targeted both radar systems and missile production sites within occupied territories.
