Ukrainian special forces strike the Syzran Oil Refinery and a drone production facility in Russia

Українські спецпризначенці завдали удару по стратегічним об'єктам в Росії, зокрема нафтопереробному заводу та підприємству з виробництва дронів.

Successful Operation of Ukraine's Defense Forces

On the night of September 15, 2026, the Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful operation, resulting in the strike on the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region of Russia, as well as the Atlant Aero facility in Taganrog, Rostov region. A significant fire broke out at the Syzran refinery after the hit, while explosions and fires were recorded at the Atlant Aero facility. The operation was carried out by the Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces in conjunction with the Unmanned System Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine.

Important facilities affected during the attacks

The Syzran refinery was hit, including the AVT-6 crude oil distillation unit and the tank farm. The Syzran refinery is part of the structure of PJSC NK Rosneft and has a processing capacity of about 8.9 million tons of oil per year. It produces gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, as well as other petroleum products that meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The Atlant Aero facility specializes in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and components for them. Among its products are the strike-reconnaissance drones Molniya and components for the Orion drones, which supply the Russian Armed Forces with unmanned systems.

Earlier, on the night of September 12, 2026, the Defense Forces of Ukraine also attacked the KuybyshevAzot chemical plant in Togliatti, while fires were recorded in Taganrog at the site of a former automobile plant and in the area of a military airfield. On the night of September 11, 2026, several regions of Russia reported attacks by drones and missiles on:

  • Saratov Oil Refinery
  • the logistics complex of OZON in the Saratov region
  • the Volgogradpromproject chemical plant in Volgograd
  • a chemical plant in the Perm region
'There are new results from the Defense Forces of Ukraine regarding the refinery in Syzran, as well as a strike in Taganrog on the drone manufacturing facility, and the launch area for drones in the Oryol region. There were hits in the Black Sea as well. I thank each of our warriors for the effectiveness of our long-range sanctions!' President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky

This series of attacks indicates an escalation of military actions between Ukraine and Russia, which may have significant consequences for both sides. The destruction of key infrastructure facilities that support Russia's military needs could affect its ability to conduct military operations. On the other hand, such a response from Ukraine reflects a growing strategy of using long-range systems to strike critical targets, which is likely to influence further decisions and tactics of both countries in the conflict.

These recent strikes are part of a broader campaign by Ukraine's Defense Forces targeting critical infrastructure in Russia. In a similar operation, Ukrainian forces successfully targeted sixteen locations, including a Lukoil refinery, highlighting the ongoing conflict's escalation.
