Ukrainian Athletes Shine on the Global Stage

Ukraine's sportsmen and women continue to deliver outstanding performances internationally. The continental shooting championships recently took place in Osijek, Croatia, where the Ukrainian team collected an impressive haul of medals. The event runs until May 18, with significant achievements already recorded by May 11.

On May 11, 2024, in the 25-meter standard pistol event:

  • Volodymyr Pasternak claimed the gold medal in the men's category.
  • The men's team—comprising Volodymyr Pasternak, Pavlo Korostylov, and Maksym Horodynets—earned gold.
  • In the junior division, Vladyslav Medushevskyi took gold.
  • Olena Kostevych secured silver in the women's competition.
  • The women's team—Olena Kostevych, Anastasiia Niemets, and Yuliia Korostylova—won silver in the team event.
  • Pavlo Korostylov and Oleksii Tsion brought home bronze medals in the men's and junior categories, respectively.

The following day, May 12, 2024, in the 50-meter free pistol event:

  • The men's team—Ihor Solovei, Viktor Bankin, and Oleh Omelchuk—captured gold.
  • The junior team—Maksym Himon, Maksym Kaminskyi, and Ivan Martyniuk—also won gold.
  • Ihor Solovei earned silver in the men's individual competition.
  • Maksym Kaminskyi finished with bronze in the junior category.

In total, Ukraine's senior national team collected 11 medals at this tournament, while the junior squad added 4 medals.

Yaroslav Amosov Makes Waves in Mixed Martial Arts

Beyond shooting success, Ukrainian fighter Yaroslav Amosov delivered an impressive performance in mixed martial arts. He secured his second consecutive victory in the UFC by defeating Spain's Joel Alvarez via a triangle choke submission in the second round. Amosov now holds a record of 30 wins and 1 loss, while Alvarez's record stands at 23 wins and 4 losses. This result also snapped Alvarez's four-fight winning streak.
