Successes of Ukrainian athletes at the European Youth Olympic Festival
Ukrainian athletes won 23 medals at the European Youth Olympic Festival, held in Cortina d’Ampezzo. In particular, Dmytro Shepyuk achieved significant success, winning gold in giant slalom and setting a national record with a score of 35.10 FIS Points. He became the first junior in the history of Ukraine to meet the standard of an international master of sports.
As a result of the festival, Ukraine ranked 10th in the overall medal standings, winning:
- 5 golds
- 8 silvers
- 10 bronzes
This became the second most successful performance of Ukrainian athletes at the festivals since 1993, second only to the achievement of 2019 when the country won 25 medals. The most successful sport for the Ukrainian team was judo, where athletes won six medals.
Successes at the World Summer Universiade
In addition to successes at the European festival, Mykola Ruschak won a bronze medal in the 20-kilometer race walk at the World Summer Universiade, where Ukraine took 14th place in the overall medal standings with 12 medals:
- 4 golds
- 3 silvers
- 5 bronzes
Sports in which Ukraine won medals at the festival include judo, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, shooting, artistic gymnastics, and table tennis.
This festival became an important platform for young Ukrainian athletes, who demonstrated their abilities on the international stage. The notable successes in judo and other sports indicate a high level of training and the prospects of Ukrainian sports youth. Such achievements contribute to the growing popularity of sports in Ukraine and may stimulate support from the state and sponsors for the further development of young talents.
