Ukrainian startups are conquering Poland: why 85% of projects remain in Ukraine

Українські стартапи успішно розвивають інноваційні рішення: чому більшість з них залишається вдома.

The success of Ukrainian startups in the Polish market

Ukrainian technology projects are attracting attention in the Polish capital market due to their speed of development and quality of solutions. A study conducted by the Polish-Ukrainian Startup Bridge (PUSB) in collaboration with the Ukrainian Startup Fund showed that 85% of startups remain in Ukraine, and 91% of respondents see potential for scaling. The analysis covered 107 startups, providing an objective picture of the development of Ukrainian entrepreneurship.

According to the study results, 85% of surveyed startups continue to be based in Ukraine or have their main management center there. Interestingly, four startups have officially returned to Ukraine, indicating positive changes in the ecosystem. Lukasz Wawak, a representative of Polish investors, noted:

'For us, Poles, this is not very positive information, as Polish investors understand that Ukrainians develop very innovative solutions very quickly and very efficiently.' Lukasz Wawak

Optimism among Ukrainian startup founders is also confirmed by the fact that 91% of respondents see potential for scaling their businesses soon. More than 45% of founders assess the startup support system in Ukraine as 'medium-strong'. This indicates that Ukrainian startups have opportunities for further development and growth in the international market with a focus on Poland.

Support for the innovative environment

The analysis was supported by companies such as 1991, Investment Capital Ukraine (ICU), Sigma Software, Techosystem, and YEP, which actively contribute to the development of the innovative environment in Ukraine. Thus, despite competition from Polish markets, Ukrainian startups continue to demonstrate their strength and potential while remaining at home.

The research conducted under the PUSB project emphasizes the importance of Ukrainian startups for the regional economy and their ability to adapt to modern challenges. In the context of globalization and increasing competition, innovative solutions coming from Ukraine could be key for further development not only in the domestic but also in the international market. The results of this study may serve as a basis for investors looking for promising opportunities in the Ukrainian tech sector.
