Ukrainian pedagogical education does not limit work only to the service sector: teachers who left due to the war are teaching in schools and kindergartens abroad, working online, and even holding leadership positions. The experience of employment for Ukrainian teachers in Germany shows that recognition of diplomas and language training may be necessary for this . This is reported by OBEZ.UA.
Who do Ukrainian teachers work for abroad
Teachers shared on Threads that they continued their careers in educational institutions in Poland, Germany, Great Britain, and other countries. Among the examples they provided:
- a French language teacher at a British school, who also teaches English online;
- a teacher at a Ukrainian school in London and a caregiver at an English kindergarten;
- a Ukrainian educator working in an administrative position at Oxford University who dreams of teaching.
One of the participants in the discussion mentioned that to work, she had to take additional classes and pass two exams to obtain a teaching certificate. 'Overall, it wasn't difficult. Since I was working and had children, I took 2-3 classes per semester. I managed it in a year and a half,' she wrote.
What is needed to teach in another country
The path to working in the profession depends on the country, local requirements, and specialty. In some cases, it is necessary to confirm the diploma or pass exams, as well as master the language at a level sufficient for teaching. At the same time, Ukrainian educators teaching children abroad can participate in a continuing education program.
Teachers' stories show that a professional trajectory after relocation does not always end abruptly, although adaptation may take time. Some educators remain in the education sector, while others initially change their work direction or combine several activities. Ukrainian educational initiatives abroad also create job opportunities: for example, in Slovakia, Ukrainian women opened a Sunday school.
