Ukrainian Women Triumph at World Cup Regatta
Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Rybachok of Ukraine claimed victory in the women's C-2 500-meter event at the World Cup stage in Szeged, Hungary. Their final time of 1:51.55 was just one-tenth of a second off the all-time best mark for the distance.
The pair’s performance highlighted their elite preparation. In the preliminary heats, they posted a time of 1:55.99, earning a direct spot in the final and bypassing the semifinals. There, they faced China’s Sun Mengya and Ma Yanan. After 250 meters, the Chinese duo led by 0.65 seconds, but Luzan and Rybachok surged ahead to win gold by a margin of nine-hundredths of a second.
Athletes’ Achievements
Last season, Luzan partnered with Iryna Fedoriv to claim a European Championship silver medal and a world title with a time of 1:53.30. Rybachok, returning to the national team this season after maternity leave, has previously won two Olympic silver medals (2020 and 2024) alongside Luzan.
The World Cup in Hungary marked the first opportunity to earn points toward Olympic qualification. Only the top 16 crews in the overall standings will advance to the main event. This result represents a crucial step for the Ukrainian team as they build momentum on the international stage.
