Ukrainian Forces Rescue Six Cats from Occupied Oleshky Using Drones in Successful 'Tiger' Mission

Українські військові звільнили шість котів з окупованого Олешок за допомогою дронів під час успішної операції.

Drone Rescue Operation Brings Six Cats to Safety from Occupied Oleshky

In a remarkable mission, Ukrainian soldiers evacuated six cats—one adult female and five kittens—from the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Kherson region. The special operation, code-named 'Tiger,' was carried out by the strike drone unit 'Bolgarychi,' a special forces detachment. Using a drone equipped with a custom-built cage, the team transported the animals across the Dnipro River over a distance exceeding ten kilometers. All six cats arrived unharmed and alive.

Details of the operation were shared by Oleksandr Pivnenko, Commander of the Ukrainian National Guard, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. To ensure the animals' well-being, the drone maintained a slow flight pace throughout the journey. Upon reaching the opposite bank of the Dnipro, National Guard personnel received the cats safely.

"With the support of local residents, we managed to evacuate six cats born under occupation through an unconventional method. They were placed inside a cage specially designed for this mission, and then our soldiers carried them through the sky across the Dnipro under the wing of a heavy bomber," Oleksandr Pivnenko

The 'Tiger' operation concluded successfully, with all cats surviving but understandably frightened.

"They landed on solid ground safe and sound, confirming the success of the 'Tiger' operation. Soon, each of these cats will find new homes," Oleksandr Pivnenko

The Kherson Regional Military Administration will oversee the cats’ placement in new homes.

Current Conditions in Oleshky

Oleshky’s humanitarian situation remains dire. Earlier, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybyha highlighted the critical shortages of food, medicine, water, electricity, and medical care faced by civilians in the occupied town. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported that Russia has not agreed to evacuate civilians from Oleshky. Ukraine has called for an urgent discussion of the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky at the OSCE Permanent Council. On October 4, National Guard units from the 11th Mikhail Hrushevskyi Brigade and the 34th Kherson Regiment delivered humanitarian aid to Oleshky for the second time.

This rescue mission not only reflects the compassion of Ukrainian forces but also showcases their innovative use of technology in conflict zones. The evacuation of cats amid an active war zone highlights the importance of humanitarian efforts during wartime and draws attention to the severe challenges faced by civilians in occupied territories. It remains crucial for the international community to maintain focus on humanitarian issues related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The successful rescue operation highlights the ongoing humanitarian efforts in Oleshky, a town facing severe shortages. In a related initiative, nearly 4 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered by Ukrainian drones to the same area, showcasing the commitment to support civilians amid challenging conditions.
