Ukrainian military surgeons master the world standard: what the ASSET course will change

Військові хірурги України підвищують рівень своїх навичок: нові можливості завдяки курсу ASSET.

ASSET Course in Ukrainian Military Medicine

The Ukrainian military medicine is integrating global life-saving standards through the ASSET course, which military surgeons and nurses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been undergoing since 2025. This year, 80 military surgeons and 50 operating nurses of the AFU successfully completed training conducted in Warsaw with the support of Aspen Medical and the American College of Surgeons.

The ASSET course is recognized as a global benchmark for training military surgeons in Alliance countries. The program focuses on intensive practice and the execution of 26 types of complex surgeries. Training was carried out in 10 training groups, creating optimal conditions for learning. The instructors were certified specialists from the American College of Surgeons who have extensive experience in this field.

The Importance of the ASSET Course for AFU

Training under the ASSET course is included in the official assistance packages for the AFU from the U.S. Department of Defense, which underscores its significance and relevance. The ASSET program began its operations in Ukraine in December 2023, with 17 training cohorts already conducted, resulting in the training of 220 medical professionals, including 135 surgeons and 85 operating nurses. This reflects Ukraine's efforts to enhance the qualification of military medics and implement global standards in medical assistance.

The integration of the ASSET course into the training of the medical personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizes the country's commitment to improving the effectiveness of medical assistance during military operations. Training according to international standards not only strengthens the professional skills of medical workers but also elevates the overall level of medical care in military conditions, which in turn can reduce mortality and improve treatment outcomes for the injured. This is an important step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capability and ensuring proper medical support for military units.
