Addressing Soldier Burnout: Insights from Artem Naumenko

In a message to his fellow service members published on June 29, 2026, soldier Artem Naumenko highlights the urgent issue of chronic stress and burnout affecting personnel after one to two years of duty. These conditions manifest as a loss of motivation, diminished interest in life, and emotional exhaustion. This marks the third time in the past month that Naumenko has explained this problem to his comrades, emphasizing that the real enemy is not fatigue itself but persistent stress.

According to Naumenko, many troops reach a point after a year or two where they feel 'they don’t want anything, nothing interests them.' He stresses the value of physical activity, proper sleep, and other straightforward yet effective strategies for overcoming burnout. His recommendations include:

  • maintaining a sleep schedule of eight hours per night;
  • limiting screen time and exposure to bright lights before bed, particularly after 10:00 PM.
