Third Airborne Extraction of an Injured Fighter Completed
Ukrainian troops from the 475th Assault Regiment CODE 9.2 successfully carried out their third aerial evacuation of a wounded soldier using the StarGate unmanned drone system. This mission took place just 2 kilometers from the Russian border, where the injured serviceman, known by the call sign 'Donbas,' had remained on position for 57 days after sustaining a mine injury on September 2.
The rescue team consisted of members of the 475th Assault Regiment CODE 9.2, working alongside SkyFall, the company behind the StarGate drone's development. The soldier’s location was heavily mined and surrounded by challenging terrain, which complicated ground movement. Additionally, the area was under constant threat from Russian FPV drones, further intensifying the difficulties of the evacuation.
During the operation, the StarGate drone covered over 15 kilometers one way to retrieve the wounded fighter, who was then transported to a medical facility. This marks the third successful use of the StarGate drone by the 475th Assault Regiment CODE 9.2 for airborne evacuation. Vladyslav emphasized,
“The StarGate drone has now saved a third wounded soldier just 2 kilometers from the Russian border.”
StarGate Drone Specifications and Capabilities
The StarGate drone is equipped with a specialized medical compartment featuring stretchers and can carry up to 150 kilograms of payload. It can reach speeds of up to 105 km/h and has an operational range of up to 30 kilometers. Provided to frontline units for testing, the drone has already facilitated the rescue of two soldiers from locations inaccessible to ground vehicles.
Notably, on October 26, the StarGate drone played a critical role in rescue missions by flying nearly 60 kilometers round trip despite attempts by Russian forces to interfere with its satellite communications. The growing reliance on such unmanned systems highlights their increasing importance in modern warfare, enabling rapid and safe medical evacuations under hostile conditions.
This operation underscores the vital role advanced technology plays in Ukraine's military efforts. Innovative tools like the StarGate drones offer swift and effective medical support to injured soldiers, potentially improving survival rates and recovery prospects on the battlefield.
As the Ukrainian military continues to innovate in rescue operations, the successful evacuation of 'Donbas' highlights the advancements being made in drone technology. For instance, a recent report details how Ukraine is pioneering the use of heavy medical drones that can operate without GPS, further enhancing their capabilities in challenging environments.
