The structure of the used car market in Ukraine has undergone significant changes over the past four years. According to the Institute of Market Research, there has been a noticeable increase in the popularity of electric vehicles and gasoline cars, while diesel vehicles have lost their appeal.
The share of diesel cars in the market decreased from 56.9% in 2022 to 23.2% in 2025. Experts explain this by the tightening of requirements for diesel fuel in Europe, low demand, and changing perceptions of these vehicles.
The most notable trend is the increase in the share of electric vehicles: from 1.2% in 2022 to 22.1% in 2025.
This has been made possible by the development of charging infrastructure, the spread of cars from China, the USA, and Korea, a greater variety of models, and the relevance of fuel savings due to rising gasoline prices. Another stimulus for buyers has been the impending removal of customs restrictions on electric vehicles with VAT starting in 2026.
More and more Ukrainians are choosing electric vehicles due to their economy and the fight against harmful emissions, while diesel cars are losing their positions in the market due to increasing regulations and changes in consumer perception.
