Ukrainian Basketball Achieves International Success

Ukrainian basketball is making significant strides on the international stage, with notable performances in European club competitions and the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. The captain of the Ukrainian women's national team, Alina Yagupova, plays for the club 'Mersin Chukurova', which has reached the EuroCup final. In the semi-finals, her team defeated the Latvian club 'Latte Montpellier' with an aggregate score of 156:128 over two legs. In the final, 'Mersin Chukurova' will face the Greek club 'Athinaikos', which overcame 'Villeneuve d'Ascq' 139:134 in its semi-final.

The first leg of the final will be played on April 2, 2026, in Greece, with the return leg scheduled for April 9, 2026, in Mersin, Turkey.

Ukrainian Men's National Team in World Cup Qualifying

The Ukrainian men's national team continues its campaign in the World Cup qualifiers, though it suffered a defeat in the fourth round, losing to Spain 78:64. In this match, the top scorers for Ukraine were:

  • Lukashov — 6 points
  • Kovliar — 11 points
  • Tkachenko — 4 points
  • Voinarovych — 12 points
  • Skapintsev — 4 points

In the third qualifying round, the Ukrainian team also lost to Spain, 66:86. However, in the second round, the squad secured a victory over Denmark with a score of 88:71, and in the first round, it defeated Georgia 92:79. In that opening game, Kovliar was named the best player, scoring 31 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
