New ‘Khmarynka’ Loitering Munition Unveiled

Ukrainian defense-tech firm General Cherry has introduced a new fixed-wing kamikaze drone designated 'Khmarynka'. The aircraft has completed a full cycle of field tests, confirming its readiness for frontline deployment. According to the manufacturer’s press service, this latest system is designed for the systematic destruction of enemy equipment, supply depots, and personnel at tactical depth.

Drone Specifications at a Glance

Key performance figures for the Khmarynka drone include:

  • Warhead capacity: up to 7 kg
  • Operational range: up to 50 km
  • Maximum speed: 140 km/h
  • Endurance: up to 60 minutes

The drone’s wingspan measures 196 cm and its length is 153 cm. Launch is performed via a catapult system. Notably, analysts from the Ukrainian defense portal Militarnyi point out that the drone’s design bears a visual resemblance to Russia’s 'Molniya' loitering munition.

A distinctive feature of the Khmarynka is the absence of a traditional fuselage. Instead, it relies on a wooden center wing section with two support tubes serving as the primary structural elements. The motors are mounted on the forward edge of the wings, while the battery and warhead are positioned above the center wing section in the nose area.

In a parallel development, the company Auterion has completed its Artemis program, producing a long-range drone that has also undergone testing in Ukraine. The Auterion system boasts a flight range of up to 1,000 miles and utilizes visual target guidance. These cutting-edge technologies underscore the growing capabilities of Ukrainian firms in the defense-tech sector.

The development of the Khmarynka drone highlights Ukraine’s accelerating progress in defense technology—a critical factor given the current security environment. Continued investment in innovative solutions like these strengthens the country’s defensive capacity and improves the effectiveness of military operations. The successful testing of the Khmarynka and Auterion’s products demonstrates the potential of Ukrainian defense enterprises to produce modern warfare assets.

As the Khmarynka drone system demonstrates its capabilities, it is worth noting the achievements of another innovative Ukrainian development. The Backfire drone bomber has successfully completed over 50 missions, striking deep behind enemy lines. This highlights the increasing effectiveness and strategic importance of Ukrainian drone technology in the ongoing conflict.
