Ukrainian judoka Yevheniy Balievsky became a prizewinner at the Grand Prix in Peru. This is reported by 'Glavkom' with reference to the Base of Ukrainian sports.
Five judokas represent Ukraine at the American stages.
Yevheniy Balievsky managed to reach the podium in the weight category over 100 kg. The Ukrainian won two matches, but lost in the semifinals to the titled Czech, double Olympic champion, winner and medalist of the world championships Lukáš Krpálek.
Then Balievsky defeated a representative from Finland in the medal match and became a bronze medalist.
Nikita Holoborodko (up to 66 kg) and Mykhailo Svidrak (up to 81 kg) were close to winning medals. They lost in the battle for bronze and took 5th place.
Also competing on the tatami were Dilshod Khalmatov (up to 60 kg) and Anton Savitsky (up to 100 kg).
Successes at the European Youth Olympic Festival
It should be noted that Ukraine entered the top 10 of the overall medal standings of the European Youth Olympic Festival, taking 10th place. The Ukrainian team earned: 5 golds, 8 silvers, and 10 bronzes.
This is the second most successful performance by Ukraine in the entire history of participation in the Festivals since 1993! More medals were won by the 'blue-yellow' team only in 2019, when there were 25 awards.
The most successful sport was judo - our athletes won six medals, including bronze in the mixed team tournament on the final competition day.
In addition to judo, representatives of sports such as swimming (2 golds, 2 silvers, and 'bronze'), athletics ('gold', 'silver', and 2 bronzes), taekwondo (2 silvers and 'bronze'), shooting ('silver' and 'bronze'), artistic gymnastics ('silver' and 'bronze'), and table tennis (bronze) also earned awards for Ukraine.
On the final day of the competitions, the Ukrainian team won another award - bronze. It was won by Mykola Rushchak from Sumy in the 20-kilometer race walk.
Ukraine took 14th place in the overall medal standings. In total, our athletes won 12 medals: 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 5 bronzes.
