Ruslan Malinovskyi's Move to Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor, the Turkish Süper Lig side, has officially announced the signing of Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi. The 31-year-old arrived as a free agent after his contract with Italian club Genoa expired on June 30. His new deal with Trabzonspor runs until the summer of 2029, signaling the club's commitment to a long-term partnership with the Ukrainian international.

Ruslan Malinovskyi's Football Journey

Born in Zhytomyr, Malinovskyi has built a diverse career across multiple European leagues. He began at the youth level with local club Polissya and later spent time in the Shakhtar Donetsk system, playing for their third team. His professional path includes stints with:

  • Sevastopol in the Ukrainian First League during the 2012/13 season
  • Zorya Luhansk
  • Belgian club Genk
  • Atalanta from Bergamo
  • French side Marseille

In the 2025/26 season, Malinovskyi made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. Over three years at Genoa, he became a key figure for the team. On the international stage, he debuted for the Ukrainian national team in 2015, earning 70 caps and scoring 10 goals. He has also represented Ukraine at two European Championships.

Trabzonspor has a notable history of Ukrainian players. Arseniy Batahov, Oleksandr Zubkov, and Danylo Sikan have all worn the club's colors. Zubkov recently moved to AEK Athens, while Sikan signed with Belgian side Anderlecht in the winter. In the 1990s, Viktor Gryshko, Yuriy Shelepnytskyi, and Serhiy Husyev played for Trabzonspor. Yuriy Kalitvintsev also featured for the team during the 1998/99 season.

Ruslan Malinovskyi now becomes part of this legacy, and his performances in Trabzonspor colors will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.

This transfer could mark a significant milestone in Malinovskyi's career, as Trabzonspor holds ambitions both domestically and in European competitions. Given his prior experience and track record, he is unlikely to go unnoticed in his new squad. For Trabzonspor, the move also strengthens their position in Turkish football, especially with the presence of Ukrainian players in the roster, which may boost the club's profile in Ukraine and beyond.

As Trabzonspor continues to strengthen its squad, the club is also navigating potential departures. Recently, they set a transfer fee for Oleksandr Zubkov, indicating a busy transfer window ahead. This move reflects the club's strategy to balance new signings with maintaining key players, which could impact Malinovskyi's integration into the team.
