‘Silence’ Receives Prestigious Recognition at Venice
The Ukrainian short film Silence, directed by Pavlo Shpegun, has been honored with the Airone della Laguna – International Collateral Award at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. This newly introduced prize marks a historic milestone as the first accolade awarded to a Ukrainian film at this renowned event. The film had its world premiere within the Orizzonti Short Films international competition, a section supported by the Ukrainian Institute.

Produced in collaboration with the Ukrainian film company ForeFilms, Silence was selected among 13 competitors in the Orizzonti category. The Airone della Laguna award was established to spotlight emerging filmmakers, innovative storytelling techniques, and fresh cinematic voices from national cinemas worldwide.
The story centers on Luka, a young stand-up comedian, exploring themes of intimacy, loss, and silence. Its emotional depth resonates strongly with audiences, highlighting the film’s contemporary relevance.
