Italian Authorities Fine Ukrainian Metal Band 1914 for Collecting Funds for the Armed Forces

Італійські влади наклали штраф на український гурт 1914 за збір коштів на підтримку військових.

1914's Tour in Italy Takes an Unexpected Turn

Ukrainian blackened death metal band 1914 found themselves in a difficult situation during their Italian tour, where financial police fined the musicians for transporting donations intended for the Ukrainian army. The total penalty and seized funds amount to €4,800. The group had been raising money to purchase drones, medical supplies, or vehicles for Ukraine's military.

The fine was imposed because the cash collected throughout the tour was stored together in a single box. Members of 1914 stated they had not exceeded the declaration limit and had broken no laws, but Italy's Financial Guard viewed the matter differently.

“We were transporting donations for the army—funds we gather during our tour. And the officers did not approve,” the musicians commented.

This marked the first such incident for the band, who expressed hope that the €4,800 taken by authorities would still benefit Ukrainian soldiers.

“We hope that the €4,800 collected from us by Italy's Financial Guard helps them confidently continue their work and feel satisfied,” said members of 1914.

Solidarity with Ukrainian Troops

It is worth noting that a broader initiative called 'Frontline Studio' exists among Ukrainian artists, through which they visit combat brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Honored Artist of Ukraine Oleksiy Trytenko recently received an award from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi for his contributions to supporting the military.

This incident highlights the challenges Ukrainian artists face when trying to support their country during wartime. Despite the setbacks, 1914 continues its work, hoping their efforts will ultimately benefit Ukrainian soldiers. Such cases also underscore the importance of legal awareness and understanding international regulations, especially when transporting funds across borders.
