Sedoy's Intense Hand-to-Hand Combat
A Ukrainian soldier with the call sign Sedoy survived a brutal close-quarters fight with a Russian assaulter inside a camouflaged shelter. The story was shared through the 'Figures' project by the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hero of Ukraine Valeriy Hudz. The incident unfolded after the commander had warned of a Russian assault team landing nearby.
Initially, Sedoy held his fire, afraid of mistakenly shooting a fellow Ukrainian. The situation escalated when the Russian assaulter entered the shelter and sat directly across from him. The attacker asked Sedoy in Russian which brigade he belonged to. As Sedoy reached for his rifle, the Russian grabbed his arm and began choking him.
Heroism of Ukrainian Soldiers
During the struggle, Sedoy managed to pull a folding knife from his body armor. He described the moment:
“I aimed for his neck—but hit his cheek. He seized my knife hand and started guiding the blade toward my own throat. I grabbed the blade with my other hand, cutting my palm. Then he began biting my hand and fingers, so hard I heard a crack.”Thanks to his determination, Sedoy broke free, grabbed his rifle, and eliminated the attacker. The dead invader was found to be carrying a Russian military award.
This account is part of a release from the 'Figures' project of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. It highlights the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers under extreme combat conditions. Separately, reports also describe an incident in the Kharkiv region where fighters from the 158th Separate Mechanized Brigade used a drone equipped with a loudspeaker to convince five Russian soldiers to surrender.
One of those occupiers turned out to be a fellow villager of the Ukrainian soldier who captured him—both originally from the temporarily occupied Velyka Znamianka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Sedoy’s story, published by Glavcom, underscores the courage and resilience of Ukrainian troops on the front lines. It also shows that even in the most dire situations, soldiers can display quick thinking and resolve, ready to defend their country to the last. These events illustrate not only individual heroism but also the organization and effectiveness of the Ukrainian armed forces in countering the aggressor.
