Siberian Anticyclone Brings Icy Peak of -25°C to Ukraine

Холодний фронт з Сибіру охоплює Україну, знижуючи температуру до -25°C.

Weather Forecast for Ukraine on January 21, 2023

A powerful Siberian anticyclone is driving a severe cold snap across Ukraine, with temperatures expected to plummet to a peak of -25°C. This weather system is also causing widespread ice glaze, creating hazardous conditions. On January 21, 2023, the country will see variable cloudiness with no precipitation, but dangerous ice on roads will pose significant challenges for drivers and pedestrians.

Regional Temperature Breakdown

In the western, northern, and Vinnytsia regions, nighttime temperatures will range from -12°C to -17°C, with some local areas potentially dropping to -20°C. Daytime highs in these areas are forecast to be between -5°C and -10°C. For the rest of Ukraine, expect nighttime lows of -10°C to -15°C and daytime temperatures of -2°C to -7°C.

Significantly milder conditions are expected in the southern regions and Zakarpattia, where temperatures will range from -3°C to +2°C. A south-westerly wind will prevail at speeds of 3-8 m/s. Meteorologists warn that the dangerous ice glaze will persist on roads, requiring extreme caution from all road users. This intense cold wave is characteristic of the deep winter weather patterns that can sweep into Eastern Europe from Siberia.

The current significant drop in temperatures across Ukraine is likely to impact transport infrastructure and daily life. The combination of ice and sub-zero temperatures is expected to lead to an increase in traffic accidents, making it crucial to exercise care while traveling. Forecasters recommend planning journeys with the weather conditions in mind and preparing for sudden temperature changes.
