Arctic freezes in Ukraine
Arctic freezes will hit Ukraine as forecasters warn of a sharp deterioration in weather conditions. An active cyclone that will determine the weather on January 8-9, 2026, will bring heavy snowfalls and a significant drop in temperature. In the western, northern, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy regions, significant snowfall is expected with a snow cover increase of 10 to 25 cm. Wind gusts of 15-18 m/s may cause blizzards and snowdrifts.
Temperature indicators
The temperature in these regions during the night of January 10-11 will drop to 14-20 degrees below zero, and in some cases, it may reach -23 degrees. During the day, the temperature in the western, northern, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy regions will fluctuate from 9 to 15 degrees below zero. In the Kirovohrad and Poltava regions, frosts will be from 6 to 12 degrees. In the southern and eastern regions, the temperature will remain between -4 and +4 degrees.
'This boundary may be quite narrow,' said Natalia Ptukha, highlighting the danger posed by hazardous phenomena, especially icing.
Forecasters urge residents to be cautious and prepare for extreme weather conditions.
The deterioration of weather conditions expected in Ukraine may significantly impact transport infrastructure, agriculture, and the daily lives of citizens. Given the forecasted heavy snowfalls and frosts, it is important to adhere to forecasters' safety recommendations. In such weather phenomena, residents should consider:
- possible transport delays;
- the danger of icing;
- the necessity to prepare for power outages due to weather complications.
