Severe Thunderstorms, Hail, and Winds Up to 15-20 m/s Set to Hit Ukraine

Потужні грозові явища, сильний дощ та шквали очікуються в Україні.

Weather Hazard Alert Issued

A yellow-level danger warning has been declared across Ukraine for May 23, as forecasters predict thunderstorms, hail, and strong squalls. During the daytime, storms are expected in the eastern and southern regions, as well as in Kirovohrad, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy oblasts. Some areas may experience hail and wind gusts reaching 15-20 meters per second.

The severe weather follows an earlier bout of storms on the evening of May 22 in the Vinnytsia region, where emergency services responded to 15 calls related to worsening conditions. Of these, 13 involved clearing fallen trees brought down by the wind, while the remaining two required pumping water from flooded homes. On the same day, Kyiv was hit by a heavy downpour, further complicating the situation in the capital.

Weather Stabilization Expected

By the end of the week, conditions are forecast to improve, bringing relief to areas affected by the adverse weather. However, the yellow alert remains active, and residents are urged to exercise caution during these hazardous conditions.

This situation highlights the importance of staying prepared for sudden weather shifts, particularly in spring when the likelihood of severe storms increases. Local authorities and emergency services continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to respond to any dangers that may arise from the unfavorable weather.

As severe weather continues to impact various regions, Kyiv faces another round of storms just days after the previous disturbances. The persistent adverse conditions highlight the ongoing unpredictability of spring weather, necessitating heightened vigilance among residents as authorities remain on alert for potential emergencies.
