Current State of Ukraine's Power Supply
As of May 4, fresh power outages have been recorded across Ukraine due to ongoing Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. At the same time, electricity consumption dropped by 14.7% compared to the previous working day—a decline attributed to warmer and sunnier weather. Consumers in four regions are now without electricity:
- Donetsk
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Kharkiv
- Kherson
Impact of the Attacks
A missile strike on the city of Merefa in Kharkiv region, also recorded on May 4, killed three people. Additionally, an airstrike on the Shostka community destroyed civilian infrastructure and injured local residents.
Ukrenergo is urging consumers to run high-energy appliances between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Company officials confirm that emergency restoration work has already started in areas where security conditions allow.
The power supply situation in Ukraine remains critically strained due to relentless attacks on the energy system. While the drop in consumption during warmer weather may help ease some pressure on the grid, restoring power in affected regions will take time and resources. The ongoing repair efforts and consumer guidelines highlight the need to adapt to new realities shaped by war and shifts in the country's energy balance.
