Ukrenergo introduces hourly electricity blackout schedules throughout Ukraine from January 7

З 7 січня в Україні почнуть діяти графіки вимкнень електроенергії, що регулюватимуть споживання на годинній основі.

Hourly electricity blackout schedules in Ukraine

The company Ukrenergo has announced the introduction of hourly electricity blackout schedules across Ukraine starting from January 7. This decision is a result of Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure, which have necessitated the restriction of electricity consumption.

The hourly blackout schedules will affect both residential consumers and industries. Ukrenergo announced this on January 6, emphasizing the importance of conserving electrical energy under the current circumstances.

  • Electric stove consumes 3.5-5 kW
  • Air conditioner - 2.5-3.2 kW
  • Electric kettle and iron - 2-2.5 kW

This indicates that some household appliances have significant energy consumption, which can affect the overall situation.

Moreover, in November, 26% of Kyiv residents consumed more electricity than usual. This may be another reason for the introduction of restrictions. It is also worth noting that the night tariff for electricity (from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM) is 2.16 UAH per kWh, while the daytime tariff is 4.32 UAH per kWh. These tariffs may influence consumers' choices regarding the use of electric devices at different times of the day.

Importance of rational energy use

The introduction of hourly electricity blackout schedules highlights the seriousness of the energy security situation in Ukraine. In response to the challenges posed by military actions, the country is forced to take measures to conserve energy resources. This decision may also encourage the population and businesses to use electricity more rationally, which could prove important in the future for stabilizing the energy system.
