Bohdan Sukhetskyi Appointed as Director General of Ukrhydroenergo

Following an open competition supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the supervisory board of Ukrhydroenergo has selected Bohdan Sukhetskyi as the company's new Director General. The selection process, which involved international consulting firm Korn Ferry, narrowed the field to two finalists. Sukhetskyi brings over 16 years of experience in the energy sector and had been serving as acting Director General since May 2025. Prior to that, he held the position of Deputy Director General for Commercial Activities.

Shifts in Supervisory Boards Across Energy Firms

In related developments, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new candidates for the supervisory board of Ukrenergo. The appointees include:

  • Yurii Boiko
  • Mykola Brusenko
  • Yehor Perelyhin

Additionally, Anton Bendyk has been approved for the supervisory board of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC. The government has also restructured the supervisory board of Naftogaz of Ukraine NJSC. During a meeting on March 17, Duncan Nightingale—who boasts over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry—was elected as the board's chair.

As part of broader leadership changes in the energy sector, the supervisory board of Centrenergo PJSC dismissed its CEO Yevhenii Harkavyi, who had been leading the company since June 2024. Serhii Isachenko has been appointed as the new head of Centrenergo. It is worth noting that Ukrhydroenergo's facilities have endured more than 260 attacks by the Russian Federation, underscoring the critical need for stable management amid ongoing challenges.

The appointment of Bohdan Sukhetskyi as Director General of Ukrhydroenergo signals the company's commitment to maintaining stability and management effectiveness in the face of current threats, particularly those stemming from military aggression.

These leadership changes across various energy companies also reflect the government's active efforts to refresh management structures, aiming to boost efficiency and adapt to evolving conditions. In the context of Ukraine's energy security, these appointments are likely to have a significant impact on the sector's future trajectory.

In light of these significant changes, the government has also initiated an overhaul of the supervisory boards for key energy companies. This restructuring aims to enhance management efficiency and oversight, reflecting the urgent need for strategic leadership in a sector facing numerous challenges.
