Extreme Wildfire Risk Alert Issued by Ukraine’s Weather Service for May 9–11

Служба погоди України попереджає про особливо небезпечні умови пожеж в період з 9 по 11 травня.

Weather Forecast for May 10 Across Ukraine

On May 10, Ukraine will see partly cloudy skies with brief showers and thunderstorms expected in most regions. Daytime temperatures will range between 10°C and 25°C, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrHydrometCenter).

Conditions in the Kyiv Region

In the Kyiv region, including the capital, cloudy weather with clear spells is forecast. Significant rainfall is likely during the day, while nighttime temperatures will hover between 10°C and 15°C. In Kyiv, daytime highs will reach 13–15°C. Winds across the Kyiv area will come from the northwest at 5–10 m/s. The heaviest rains in the Kyiv region are expected on May 10, with no precipitation forecast for May 11 and the night of May 12.

Nationally, daytime temperatures on May 10 will range from 13°C to 18°C, while eastern and southeastern areas will see 21–26°C. In the far west, overnight lows will be 5–10°C, with daytime highs climbing to 25°C. Meanwhile, from May 9 to 11, UkrHydrometCenter warns that an extreme wildfire hazard will persist across most of Ukraine, except for Crimea, Volyn, and Zakarpattia regions.

Full extinguishment of the blaze in Chernihiv region is currently impossible due to critical security conditions: enemy drones are circling the fire zone, and the area near the border is heavily mined. These factors severely hinder emergency response efforts.

In summary, May 10 will bring rain, thunderstorms, and temperature swings across Ukraine, particularly in the Kyiv region, while extreme wildfire risks remain active in many areas.

The weather on May 10 will be typical of spring, but a serious threat of forest fires persists in most regions, potentially endangering public safety. The presence of hostile drones in fire zones complicates rescue operations, making it essential for residents to follow recommendations from UkrHydrometCenter and emergency services. Vigilance and caution are required, especially in areas under extreme fire danger warnings.

As the extreme wildfire hazard continues to pose a significant threat across much of Ukraine, understanding the broader implications is essential.
