Ukraine's Hydrometcenter Issues Frost Warning, Predicting Sleet and Icy Conditions

Гідрометцентр України попереджає про ризик заморозків, очікуючи ожеледь та слизькі дороги.

Weather Forecast for Ukraine on April 4 and 9

Ukraine's State Hydrometeorological Service warns of hazardous weather, including ground frosts, forecast for April 4 and 9. On April 4, cloudy conditions with clear spells are expected, with possible rain in places, as well as light rain and sleet. Humidity will be high, and a strong wind will blow from northern directions.

Nighttime temperatures will range from 1 to 6°C above zero. However, in certain eastern regions—specifically Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia—temperatures may drop to between 0 and 3°C. Daytime highs are expected to be between +3°C and +8°C, reaching up to 11°C in the south and east.

Forecast for April 9

On April 9, the Kyiv region and the capital are forecast to have cloudy weather with clear spells. Light rain is possible in Kyiv, with sleet at night. A north wind of 5-10 m/s is expected. Nighttime temperatures in the Kyiv region will be 1-6°C, with ground frosts potentially reaching 0-3°C.

In Kyiv itself, nighttime temperatures will be 1-3°C, rising to 5-7°C during the day, with ground frosts of 0-2°C.

The forecast indicates a Level I (yellow) frost hazard for the Kyiv region and the capital. Citizens are urged to be aware of potential dangers associated with the low temperatures on the night of April 9. Such spring frosts are a significant concern for farmers across Eastern Europe, as they can damage vulnerable crops.

This forecast highlights that the spring frosts could negatively impact agriculture, particularly early-season crops that have already begun their growth cycle. It is crucial for agronomists and farmers to be prepared for these conditions and to take measures to protect their plantings. This is especially relevant for regions where temperatures may fall below freezing, increasing the risk to agricultural yields.

As the weather fluctuates, it's essential to stay informed about upcoming trends. Following the current frost warnings, many are eager to understand how the weather will evolve in the coming days.
