Ukrposhta brings marriage certificates within reach of Ukrainians abroad
Ukrainians living outside the country will no longer have to make a special trip home to obtain their marriage certificate. Ukrposhta, the national postal operator of Ukraine, has joined the enhanced state service "Marriage Online 2.0" as a logistics partner. In cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, it will manage international delivery of marriage certificates to citizens overseas. The undertaking begins as a pilot project, with the list of covered destinations set to expand gradually to 48 countries.
The "Marriage Online" platform, which this new effort builds on, has been operating domestically for two years. Forecasts indicate that by 2026, four out of ten marriages registered in Ukraine will go through electronic channels, reflecting the rising demand for online services. The project is being implemented with the participation of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the state enterprise "Diia", the state enterprise "National Information Systems", and the Digital Offices of Civil Registration, with backing from the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP program run by the East Europe Foundation.
Phased geographic expansion
The geographic coverage will be rolled out in three stages. At the launch of each phase, Ukrposhta will announce the available destinations, delivery schedules, and shipping costs. As the country's designated postal operator and a member of the Universal Postal Union, Ukrposhta is in charge of document delivery, and it already exchanges shipments with 230 countries and territories around the world.

This initiative is aimed at simplifying access to vital paperwork for Ukrainians residing abroad.
The option to receive marriage certificates through Ukrposhta is a notable milestone in Ukraine's digital services evolution, especially for those outside the country. Beyond improving document access, it underscores a wider movement toward digital government, a development made all the more pertinent by globalization and the pandemic. Broader international coverage could also boost Ukraine's image as a country that adapts to its citizens' needs, no matter where they live.
