Growing Complaints Over Train Ticket Availability
Passengers in Ukraine are increasingly frustrated as they struggle to purchase tickets for Ukrzaliznytsia trains scheduled for the last ten days of June. Many report persistent issues with the online booking system. A passenger named Olga Butsko shared that she spent over half an hour trying unsuccessfully to buy a ticket. She noted that sales for the Odesa–Kyiv route on June 28 had not yet opened, and expressed worry that all available seats might be bought up at station ticket offices.
Another traveler, Serhiy Kovtun, voiced his anger, stating that tickets for train 094O from Chełm to Kharkiv were unavailable for both June 27 and June 28 as of 10:30 a.m. on June 9. He pointed out that there were no schedule changes or official announcements on the website, leaving passengers who are planning their trips confused and frustrated.
User Anastasia Boyko asked why ticket sales for train 148 (Kyiv–Odesa) had not opened starting June 16, even though the train still appears in the schedule. In response to these complaints, Ukrzaliznytsia assured the public that preparatory work is underway to launch ticket sales for summer train services, beginning June 28, 2026.
New Dynamic Pricing System Introduced
Additionally, on April 25, Ukrzaliznytsia implemented a new dynamic pricing system for railway tickets. This system currently applies only to SV (luxury) and first-class carriages on Intercity trains operating on domestic routes. Ticket prices now vary based on season, day of the week, how far in advance the purchase is made, and route occupancy. The company urged passengers not to panic, assuring them that ticket sales would open soon once all preparatory steps are completed.
The ongoing issues with ticket availability have raised alarm among travelers making summer plans. Problems with online sales and a lack of clear information about when bookings will open for certain routes highlight the need for more transparent communication from the carrier. With the new dynamic pricing model in place, it is crucial for passengers to receive up-to-date details on prices and seat availability, as these factors can significantly impact their travel arrangements.
As passengers grapple with ticket availability issues for Ukrzaliznytsia trains, similar concerns have emerged regarding routes to Poland. Recent explanations from the railway company shed light on the reasons behind the sudden unavailability of tickets for these international journeys.
