Ukrainian Railways Passenger Transport
Between June 8 and June 21, Ukrainian Railways transported more than one million passengers. The most severe ticket shortage is on the Kyiv-Lviv route, where demand exceeds available seats by three times. In response, the company has added extra trains, incorporating carriages previously used on less busy routes.
Over the two-week period, an average of 692 passengers traveled through each train car. During this time, over 43,500 children used the railway, and 7,654 military personnel booked trips through a special reservation system. A Ukrainian Railways spokesperson commented:
“The top route is Kyiv-Lviv and back. Here, ticket demand is three times higher than supply. To allow more people to travel, we have added extra trains.”
Schedule Changes
Starting June 28, the Bessarabia train running between Kyiv and Chișinău will operate on a daily schedule. Additionally, from June 29, Ukrainian Railways will switch to an updated summer timetable, with ticket sales for this schedule having opened on June 9. These adjustments aim to optimize transport and meet the growing demand for rail travel.
The surge in ticket demand during the summer travel period signals a recovery in domestic travel within Ukraine.
