Increase of Freight Tariffs by Ukrzaliznytsia
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to increase freight tariffs by 40%. This decision raises concerns among the industry and exporters, as it may lead to rising transportation costs, reduced production, and a shift of cargo to road transport. The increase in tariffs could negatively impact the country's economy, particularly in the logistics and goods transportation sectors.
In 2024, the freight segment of 'Ukrzaliznytsia' generated about 20 billion UAH. However, the tariff schedule of 'Ukrzaliznytsia' has not been revised since 2009, raising questions about the necessity and appropriateness of such a significant increase. Experts note that the possibilities for further tariff increases have been exhausted, as Ksenia Orynchak pointed out.
'A general increase in tariffs will not yield the desired effect.' Minister of Economy
According to him, part of the cargo may shift to road transport or disappear due to the cessation of enterprises. This underlines the seriousness of the potential consequences for the economy due to the planned increase in 'Ukrzaliznytsia' tariffs.
Impact on the Economy
The planned increase in 'Ukrzaliznytsia' tariffs is an important issue for the Ukrainian economy, as it will affect transportation costs and the competitiveness of enterprises. In conditions where infrastructure and logistics are already under pressure, changes in tariffs may pose an additional challenge for businesses, which could increase risks for economic growth.
Considering alternative ways of transporting goods may also lead to changes in the structure of the freight transportation market in Ukraine.
