Introduction of New International Rail Services
Ukrzaliznytsia has announced new international train routes linking Kyiv and Dnipro with the Polish cities of Chełm and Przemyśl. A standout among these is the prestigious Mykhailo Hrushevskyi train, departing Kyiv at 21:48 and arriving in Chełm at 08:08. This train, numbered 23/24, carries symbolic significance by connecting two cities important to Ukrainian history: Hrushevskyi was born in Chełm and spent nearly two decades working in Kyiv.
Representatives from Ukrzaliznytsia emphasized:
"We honor the inspiration behind the Ukrainian national movement by linking two cities central to his legacy."
In addition to train 23/24, the company has launched train 31/32 operating between Kyiv and Przemyśl, which leaves Kyiv at 21:30 and arrives in Przemyśl at 8:19. This route includes stops in key Ukrainian cities such as:
- Vinnytsia
- Khmelnytskyi
- Ternopil
- Lviv
This service also offers convenient connections to trains heading to European destinations like Berlin, Prague, Kraków, Katowice, and Wrocław. Another newly introduced route is train 73/74, running between Dnipro and Przemyśl. It departs Dnipro at 19:00, arriving in Przemyśl at 14:10, with stops including Oleksandriia, Kamianske, Piatykhatky, Znamianka, and Lviv.
Adjusting to Changing Conditions
Alongside these international expansions, starting October 23, the Intercity+ train from Darnytsia to Lviv will extend its route to Truskavets. This service will operate daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Since October 16, Ukrzaliznytsia’s app features a new tool that displays average evacuation stops and train delays over the past ten days, enhancing transparency for travelers.
However, due to deteriorating security circumstances, two trains have been discontinued as of October 20: train numbers 79/80 (Dnipro–Lviv) and 31/32 (Zaporizhzhia–Przemyśl). Ukrzaliznytsia continues to adapt operations to maintain passenger safety and optimize routes amid evolving challenges.
The launch of these new international routes signals a revitalization of rail connections between Ukraine and Poland, potentially boosting tourism and commercial ties. At the same time, the suspension of certain services underscores the need for flexible transport infrastructure in response to the current regional situation.
As Ukrzaliznytsia expands its international services, it is crucial for travelers to stay informed about potential disruptions. Recent updates indicate that major delays and service suspensions were reported on October 19 due to security concerns, affecting train operations. Understanding these challenges can help passengers plan their journeys more effectively.
