A Shrapnel Fragment Lodged in His Documents Ended Up Saving a Soldier’s Life

Снаряд, пробивший документи, на щастя, став її рятувальником.

How a Soldier’s Papers Shielded Him from Death

A Ukrainian serviceman named Oleksandr owes his life to the documents he was carrying during a combat mission. According to the Migration Service of Vinnytsia Oblast, as reported by Glavkom, the soldier was wounded but is now undergoing rehabilitation.

Oleksandr recently visited the Khmilnyk branch of the State Migration Service in Vinnytsia Oblast to exchange his Ukrainian ID card. The defender explained that a fragment from an enemy shell tore through the documents he had on him—including his passport.

“The fragment passed through the papers and got stuck in them, never reaching the soldier’s body,”
officials from the Migration Service stated. The ID card itself was heavily damaged and is no longer usable.

Other Remarkable Survival Stories of Ukrainian Troops

Earlier reports highlighted another soldier whose life was saved by a MacBook laptop during a shelling attack. A piece of enemy artillery struck the device. There is also the account of a Ukrainian man who managed to escape occupied territory thanks to a photo of Moscow set as his phone wallpaper. That man later became a drone operator and, by his own count, eliminated 443 Russian soldiers.

These incidents underscore the extreme dangers Ukrainian troops face on the front lines and the unexpected role personal items can play in survival. They also reveal how ordinary objects—like a laptop or a phone—can alter fate in the chaos of war, highlighting both the resilience and resourcefulness of Ukraine’s defenders.
