Easter Egg Workshop Held at Kyiv's Khlybna Sophia
Ahead of Easter, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko participated in a traditional pysanka (Easter egg) decorating workshop at Kyiv's Khlybna Sophia. The event, organized by Oksana Tsybukh, centered on recreating the intricate pattern of a specific pysanka that was rescued from the Bakhmut Community Center in 2022. This preserved egg has become a powerful emblem of hope and cultural resilience for Ukrainians. The tradition of pysanky, involving wax-resist dyeing, is a centuries-old art form deeply connected to Ukrainian identity.
Participants and the Event's Significance
The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including:
- military personnel
- veterans
- rescue workers
- energy sector workers
- utility workers
- civil society activists
- foster parents with children
In her remarks, Prime Minister Svyrydenko emphasized the importance of such gatherings, stating:
“I thank everyone who found the time to join. Defenders, veterans, rescuers, energy workers, utility workers, civil activists, foster parents with children who had to leave their homes due to the enemy's actions—all are different, but what each of them does every day in their place holds our country together. Just like the traditions of the Ukrainian people, which we preserve and continue.” — Yuliia Svyrydenko
The Prime Minister also honored the memory of Iryna Tsybukh, the organizer's daughter, a paramedic and civil activist who was killed two years ago in the Kharkiv region while evacuating the wounded. In her speech, Svyrydenko added:
“Easter is the victory of light over darkness. And this victory will definitely come for all of us.” — Yuliia Svyrydenko
This workshop underscores the vital role of cultural preservation during times of national trial, demonstrating how Ukrainians continue to unite around their customs despite immense challenges. Such events help revive national identity while fostering support and solidarity among those affected by the war. The Prime Minister's participation highlights the significance of unity and collective effort in overcoming the nation's hardships. Remembering fallen heroes like Iryna Tsybukh remains a crucial element of national consciousness and honoring their sacrifice.
