Complaints Regarding Language Law Violations
Ukraine's Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, received 659 complaints about violations of language legislation in the first quarter of 2026. - Product and service information and price tags (48 complaints, 7%)
- Media (45 complaints, 7%)
- Government bodies (36 complaints, 6%)

Geographical distribution of the complaints further indicates widespread issues with compliance across different regions. The highest numbers originated from:
- Kyiv — 238 (36%)
- Odesa Oblast — 116 (18%)
- Kharkiv Oblast — 91 (14%)
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast — 61 (9%)
Olena Ivanovska pointed out that in many instances, paying the current fine is less burdensome for violators than actually bringing their operations into full legal compliance. This situation underscores the necessity for more severe sanctions to ensure adherence to Ukrainian language law.
Additionally, the Commissioner's Office is working to ensure that international streaming platforms, such as YouTube and Spotify, do not push Russian-language content onto Ukrainian users. These efforts aim to bolster the position of the Ukrainian language within the country's information space.
