Prime Minister and Lawmakers Discuss Stronger IDP Support
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi met with members of parliament to talk about improving help for people who have been forced to move inside the country. The discussion is part of broader government efforts to deal with the challenges of internal displacement. Following the meeting, the cabinet instructed several ministries to prepare a package of policy proposals without delay, along with a detailed estimate of the costs involved. Every initiative will have to be agreed with the lawmakers.
Key Problems and Proposals
At present, Ukraine has about 78,000 temporary housing places available for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Those at the meeting also examined the possibility of introducing a 'single housing window' system. Under that model, an individual would approach the state once and receive a complete overview of all available support options, from private rental to social rental housing or compensation for destroyed housing. Koretskyi emphasized the importance of avoiding repeat applications and identical procedures under each separate programme.

Improving support for displaced citizens is a crucial response to the strains caused by the large-scale movement of people within Ukraine.
