Introduction of a progressive reward for servicemen
The Ukrainian government plans to implement an annual progressive reward for servicemen participating in the war, which will require significant financial resources. This issue is a priority for the Cabinet of Ministers. Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko emphasized the need to enhance motivational factors for military service, noting that the government is aware of the importance of improving conditions for Ukraine's defenders.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has already developed a roadmap for the implementation of a new model of military service. Lieutenant Andriy Dytyrenko initiated a petition for the introduction of an annual progressive reward, which involves financial payments based on years of service. In particular, Dytyrenko proposes that:
- for 1 year of service, the serviceman will receive 50,000 hryvnias,
- for 2 years — 100,000 hryvnias,
- for 3 years — 200,000 hryvnias,
- for 4 years — 400,000 hryvnias.
Yuliya Svyrydenko also noted that the government fully supports the need for a fair assessment of each defender's contribution to the defense of the state. However, according to Andriy Dytyrenko, the state does not recognize the contributions of soldiers who have been at the front for several years in a row, which raises questions about the adequacy of the current reward system. The introduction of a new reward model could be an important step in ensuring decent conditions for servicemen.
Context of increasing the minimum wage
It should be noted that starting from January 1, 2026, the minimum wage in Ukraine increased from 8,000 to 8,647 hryvnias. This increase may also affect the overall context of financial payments for servicemen under the new program. The government continues to work on improving service conditions and enhancing motivation for military personnel, which is a vital aspect of national security.
The implementation of a progressive reward for servicemen can significantly improve their material situation and increase motivation for service in the context of a prolonged war. It also indicates the growing attention from the government to the needs of the military, which is important for maintaining morale at the front. In the context of raising the minimum wage, this initiative may become another step towards ensuring social guarantees for Ukraine's defenders.
