Power Supply Situation in Ukraine
Following a massive missile and drone assault, emergency power outages were implemented in several Ukrainian regions. According to DTEK, emergency blackouts were also enforced in Kyiv. On April 2, a meeting was held regarding the implementation of regional and municipal resilience plans. These plans, developed by each oblast based on local needs, were coordinated and approved by Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council. Within the framework of these plans, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 12.85 billion hryvnias to protect critical infrastructure. The funds are designated for 209 facilities in frontline regions and the Kyiv oblast, as Ukraine's energy system remains a primary target for Russian strikes.
Resilience Plans and Energy Sector Modernization
The total estimated need for the restoration and modernization of Ukraine's energy sector over the next decade is $90.6 billion. This figure is 34% higher than previous damage assessments. In light of the current strain, representatives from Ukrenergo have urged:
“If you have electricity right now - please use it sparingly!”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized:
“Resilience plans have been approved for every region across the country. It is crucial that communities and regional authorities do not waste time. Every significant facility must be protected.”
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that “Ukraine is building a new energy system. It will be more resilient, flexible, and better protected from Russian attacks.”
