Redirecting energy resources for the population
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has instructed to ensure the redirection of energy resources of up to 1 GW for the needs of the population by December 24. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced the receipt of additional capacity as a result of reviewing critical infrastructure items. This is one of the steps that, according to Svyrydenko, will help balance the energy system and reduce the number of outages for people.
The review of the list of critical infrastructure objects has been ongoing since last year. It is known that about 3,000 of the 5,000 objects do not meet the criteria for criticality. The energy system of Ukraine functions as a single organism, highlighting the importance of effective use of energy resources.
Recommendations from Ukrenergo specialists
Ukrenergo specialists advise shifting the use of high-power appliances to off-peak hours. For example:
- Electric stove consumes 3.5-5 kW
- Air conditioner - 2.5-3.2 kW
- Electric kettle and iron - 2-2.5 kW
Reducing the load on the energy system during peak hours can positively impact power outage schedules, ensuring more stable electricity supply for the population.
This government decision is part of a strategy to improve the energy situation in Ukraine, especially amid ongoing challenges related to energy infrastructure. Reevaluating the criticality of objects and optimizing their use can significantly affect the stability of electricity supply, which is particularly important during the winter period when the demand for electricity rises. Attracting additional capacities can reduce the load on the system and lower the frequency of outages, which will positively affect the lives of the population.
